I mean, technically he's not a teenager, as he's 20 at this point, but he's always been a hothead (no pun intended) and quick to throw a punch when people insult his family. And, studies show that most people aren't fully mentally developed as adults until at least 25.

Plus Elemental type devil fruits tends to affect the personality as well, like how Aokiji is always calm and Ace and Akainu are hot-headed fools.

Fire Fist is capabile of a second transformation. I guess
First transformation: Made of fire
-Its body emits fire, fire is a chimical reaction that combines with the oxigen in the air. The power is not making the fire but the heated substance that ignites.
Second transformation: Combustion
-If used the ability corectly he can make his body intro a gas state like hydrogen, igniting it would be hotter then lava! It's match better then burning it directly, or it could be that can't stop the substance from burning?
Third transformation: Compressed Combustion
- liquefy or solidify the the substance? I don't think the devil fruit will allow that. Burns for a longer duration. Solid fuel can make explosions (not sure if any of this is ture).

But him standing up for WB makes sense, in all those flashbacks of Ace childhood, he asked everyone what they thought of Roger, and when they badmouthed him, Ace threw fists no matter how strong they were. So when he does it here, it is hot-headed, but can't be blamed.

Also, Luffy is MC, Ace would just aim to be next Pirate King if he escaped as that's what WB would've wanted.
